About Me
Hi! I'm Krista (Krista/She/They)! I am a 38 year old White Queer Femme, with a blended life experience between San Francisco, CA and Small Town Central Texas. I've been a scholar of family relationships and systems since I was a child and have spent the better part of my life nourishing these roots. I began babysitting as a primary source of income at the age of 14, and worked as a nanny for the next 20 years.
A true believer in community colleges, I took a winding road and obtained a B.S. in Psychology and Philosophy from Texas State University in 2009 and moved to San Francisco the same year. I spent several years supporting families and exploring the fields of Occupational Therapy, Special Education, and Counseling Psychology. In 2012 I met an MFT who integrated therapy into occupational therapy and my path became clear. In 2016, I gained an M.S. in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy and emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) from the University of San Francisco.
I knew from my nannying days that humans easily access healing and growth in the outdoors. In 2019 I obtained an Eco-Therapy Certificate from Holos Institute to support an orientation to an ecological framework. In addition to integrating the living systems theory into therapy, this lens has allowed an understanding of the "Sweet and Crunchy" intersections of life including their relationships to power, privilege, oppression, reciprocity, and grace. Supporting folks, individually and systemically, grow Up From Below in a Top-Down World is my primary interest as an Eco-therapist. A certificate in Trauma-Informed Systems (2020) has strengthened my understanding and motivation for larger systemic change and is integrated into my ecological approach to individual transformation.
Services & Treatment Approaches
Individual, Couples, Family Therapy, Pre-licensed Supervision
Video Telehealth for those physically residing in California
I am currently providing tele-therapy services to residents of California. I therapeutically vibe well with young adults, disabled folks, and parents. Some of my therapy clients occupy leadership or justice-oriented roles. This includes mental health professionals, political movement workers, environmental justice advocates, climate educators, educators of all kinds, non-profit leaders, and parents. Supporting folks of all socio-cultural placements in an Up From Below framework, focuses on increasing personal emergence and development while gripping the dualism of joy and grief in movement and social change work. My Relational and Growth-Centered approach is primarily rooted in Social-Ecology, Family Systems and Community well-being. Into my CBT foundation, I integrate a variety of Depth and Person-Centered therapeutic theories and evidence-based interventions to support the growth and well-being of my clients and their community. Aligning with values such as justice and inclusion, I am passionate about re-designing industrialized spaces through decolonizing acts. Eco-therapy empowers us to build relationship and resilience within our identity and environment.
